The funeral service for Lionel Charles “Chick” Arnold, Sr., 89, of Columbia, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 5637 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.The Reverend Joshua Knott will officiate.Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. before the service at the church. “Chick” was born on September 24, 1931, in Ames, Iowa to the late Lionel Kenneth Arnold and Lora Annette Killius Arnold.He passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving family. Lionel was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving as a First Lt.Lionel was a 1955 graduate of Iowa State University, receiving his B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering. He met his loving wife, Darlene Louise Roberson Arnold and they married on Sept. 6, 1953. He retired from at Tee-Pack, Inc. now known as Devro, Inc. after 47 years of devoted service.Chick loved Golf, he has 3 hole-in-one Trophies and enjoyed playing with the “Old Guard” golfing friends and they played 2 or 3 times a week for decades at various golf courses in the Columbia area.He was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. Survived by his wife of 67 years, Darlene; sons, Lionel Charles Arnold, Jr. (Blaine) David Glenn Arnold both of Columbia; daughter, Elizabeth Louise Thele (Michael) of Carbondale, Colorado; sister, Charlotte Honet; grandchildren, Ryan Thele, Kaitlyn Dalton (Ryan) and Samantha Arnold; great-granddaughters, Olivia Thele, Allison Godinez and Piper Dalton.
