Linda was born on April 10, 1942, the daughter of James and Gladys Sweetman Dykstra. She was raised in Little Falls, New Jersey, and was a graduate of Little Falls High School. After graduation, she went on to earn her diploma as a medical secretary from Paterson Commercial College. It was there that Linda met "the love of her life" and future husband, Lynn Zarpentine.

When Linda left Dictaphone, she went on to work for the State of South Carolina at the Department of Corrections, where she eventually retired.
After retirement, Linda’s passion became traveling and working with Carolina Tours, also known as Simply Special Tours. She visited all 50 states and many foreign countries.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lynn Zarpentine. Survivors include her daughter, Stacy Elizabeth Zarpentine of Roswell, Georgia; her son, James Clark Zarpentine (Tracie); and two grandsons, Zachary Zarpentine and Christopher Zarpentine, whom she loved dearly and of whom she was extremely proud.
