Miles Johnson

A memorial gathering for Lewis Miles Johnson, Jr., 72, of Columbia, will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Temples-Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia. A reception will follow for Family and Friends. Miles was born in Columbia, SC, on November 21, 1950, and departed this earthly life on October 4, 2023, at Prisma Health Richland. He was the son of the late Lewis Miles Johnson, Sr., and Lucille Huff Johnson. As a young man, Miles attended the First Presbyterian Church of Columbia where he sang in the choir and played church softball. Miles was a proud graduate of the old Columbia High School, Class of 1969, where he played on the basketball team. He later graduated from the University of South Carolina. Miles was formerly employed by the Department of Social Services, Chapman Drug Company, and lastly worked as a union carpenter in Iowa. Miles was both a Mason as well as a Shriner. He was fun-loving and enjoyed the unofficial title as “Mayor” of River Drive given to him by longtime friends. Survivors include his daughters, Grace Johnson and Clara Johnson-Gunter (Clay); his sister, Gail Johnson (Al Sawyer); and his grandchildren, Haleigh, Austin, Hanna, Scarlett, Adalynn, and Daniel.
