COLUMBIA—Kenneth Scott Ashley died January 15, 2016.A burial service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Ave., Columbia, SC 29201 on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 1:30 o'clock.A memorial service will be held at Chapin Baptist Church, 950 Old Lexington Hwy, Chapin, SC 29036 on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 3:00 o'clock.Visitation will be following the memorial service at the church. Kenny was born May 23, 1962, the third and last child, to Paul J. and Bonnie C. Ashley. He was the grandson of the late Ernest P. and Nonie Ross Nelson Ashley and the late Odell and Mary Caulder. He leaves behind his parents, two sisters, Paula Ashley (Donald Herrick) and Cindie Ashley Gillis (Mike), one nephew, Brian Shealy, two nieces, Jordan Campbell and Stephanie Besselievre (Mitch), and one great nephew, John Ross Keaveney, one aunt, Dolores Ashley, two uncles, James and Heyward Caulder, and many cousins.He also leaves behind his caregiver and friend, Nancy Spieth and many devoted friends.He loved his family deeply and will be missed more than he knows. Kenny was born with Muscular Dystrophy and served as the agency's state ambassador as a child.Because he led his life with great courage and a fighting spirit, he had many admirers and supporters. Numerous people have spoken of what a positive effect he had on their lives.He was deeply proud of his heritage as a lifelong South Carolinian and was a history buff regarding all things southern. Despite his handicap, he attended Irmo schools all of his school years. You may mourn for his grieving parents and family and friends, but please do not mourn Kenny's death.He discarded that broken body and took off on wings.He is now free to go wherever he wants.
