Kathleen H. Modzelewski devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Kathleen Hayes Modzelewski, 78, of Irmo, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021, after a brief illness. She was born in Staten Island, NY, and was predeceased by her parents, Catherine and James Hayes.She was a graduate of St. Peters Girls High School.Kathleen was married to the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Modzelewski on April 20, 1963.The two were inseparable and their love knew no bounds. Kathleen is survived by her husband, Joseph “Joe” Modzelewski, Sr.; children, Dr. Joseph Modzelewski, Jr., (Christy), and James Modzelewski (Lauren), Kathleen Richardson (Bobby), and Dr. Craig Modzelewski (Tenna), and was loving and proud grandmother to Blake Richardson (Cassandra), Hailey Modzelewski, Billie Modzelewski, Penny Modzelewski, Erin Modzelewski, Tripp Modzelewski, Katie Hayes Richardson, Liam Modzelewski, Starr Jordan (Mike); and great-grandmother to Holten Hayes Richardson, and also her beloved fur-baby, Megan. Kathleen is also survived by her loving sister who she adored, Margaret Lapetina (Mike), and her nieces and nephews, Michele Lepre (Mike), Susan Angelico (Vincent), Michael Lapetina (Dina), and Melissa Depaola (Nick) of New York. Kathleen retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections after 27 years and remained friends with her legal team. She loved her luncheons with her wonderful friends, her Bible study group, and other luncheon groups.She was very proud of her Irish heritage and St. Patrick’s Day was very important to her.She also loved to crochet and cook.Most of all, she will be remembered for her loving and kind spirit.She never met a stranger, and to know her you immediately loved her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, 120 Marydale Lane, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 2:00 p.m. Temples Halloran Funeral Home will be accepting flowers, or in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the ASPCA.
