Kathleen Dial Bandy passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2016. Born on June 19, 1928 in Summerville, Georgia to Jeannette Hill Dial and Oliver S. Dial, she was raised in the Anniston, Alabama area. It was there she met and married the love of her life, Bob Bandy, who was a popular radio personality. They moved to Miami, Florida and then back to Birmingham where Bob worked in television. In the mid-1950s he re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Kat, as her friends called her, loved being a military wife and followed Bob to assignments in Panama City, FL, Las Vegas, NV, Satellite Beach, FL, The Panama Canal Zone, and Washington, D.C. and then they happily retired in Satellite Beach where they lived until Bob passed away. She eventually moved to Melbourne, FL and lived there until the terrible disease of Alzheimer’s dementia made it impossible for her to live independently any longer. She then moved to Columbia to live with her daughter and be close to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eventually she resided at Generations of Irmo in their assisted living facility and finally in their Memory Care Unit. Kathleen was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Robert W. Bandy and her sister, Hazel Perkins. She is survived by her daughter, Merri Bandy Lewis (Charles); grandson Robert C. Lewis; granddaughter, Dianna Lewis Hug (Michael); great-granddaughters, Ashley Lewis, Leah Hug and Camryn Hug; brother-in-law, Richard P. Bandy (Patricia); nieces, Dianna Murray (Richard), Vanessa Engle (Jaime), Barbara Slagle (Tom); nephew, Steve Bandy (Kristy) and several great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
