Timothy "Justin" Downs

Timothy “Justin” Downs of Kihei, Hawaii, passed away unexpectedly at his home with his wife, Beth by his side on July 5, 2024. Born in Columbia, SC on April 27, 1981. Justin graduated from Irmo High School in 1999. He graduated from the University of South Carolina where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business and Finance with a minor in Economics in 2004. Justin went on to earn multiple AWS Certifications, Microsoft Certifications, and several other technical certifications. Justin wrote three books on technology. He began his career in Columbia with the South Financial Group as Sr. Web Developer and was promoted as Assistant Vice President. Justin then went to work for General Information Systems as Development Manager and Sr. Software Developer. In 2012 Justin and Beth moved to Maui where he went to work for Ardent Management as Architect and Lead Software Developer. For the last four years Justin worked as a Remote Contractor and Developer/Technology Consultant. As a child Justin loved the water and being outdoors. When he was two years old all he wanted for Christmas was a race boat which his dad gladly built for him. Later Justin took up woodworking and he made several pieces of furniture for his home and for his mom’s home. His love for the outdoors continued as he grew older when Uncle Jeff would take him and his cousin Hunner hunting and fishing. Justin also had a love for sports. He played soccer as a child and began cross country track in middle school and continued in high school. At a youthful age Justin became a passionate Gamecock fan. He and Beth had season tickets to football games, and he continued to watch the Gamecocks play in Maui, even if he had to get up early to watch. Justin married the love of his life, Beth on March 7, 2009. Their wedding day was magical. In December 2012, Justin and Beth began their adventure moving to the island of Maui. Justin said they had moved to paradise. On May 17, 2015, their family was complete with the birth of their daughter, Ella. Being Beth’s husband and Ella’s Daddy was Justin’s greatest joy. Justin had a special love for sunsets. He proposed to Beth on a cruise at sunset. When Aubrey and his mom visited Maui, going to the beach to watch the sunset was a nightly event and are now treasured memories. Justin was predeceased by his infant son Stephen Brice Downs, Maternal grandfather, Ralph Pierson Jr. Paternal grandparents Paul & Blondell Downs. Justin is survived by his wife Helen Elizabath (Beth) Downs, Daughter Elsie Elizabeth (Ella), Parents Timothy L Downs, Anna P Downs, Sister Lori McArver (Phillip), Step-mother, Kimberly Downs, In Laws Howard & Sandra Thomas, Sister in Law Katie Wilson, Nieces Aubrey Hope Downs, Emsley McArver, Charlotte & Savannah Wilson, Aunts Pamela Sloan (Andy), Margaret Barwick, Uncles Ralph Pierson III (Carla), David Pierson, Jeffery Mancil, Rick Downs (Brenda), Cousins Hunner Mancil, Amanda Pierson, and Kimberly and Christopher Downs. The memorial service for Justin will be held at 2:00 on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Temples-Halloran Chapel. Burial will follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens at 5400 Bush River Road. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Anna Downs at 1204 Baffin Bay Road.
