Joyce Crosby Farmer

April 20, 1932 — July 16, 2023

Joyce Annette Crosby Farmer, 91, died Sunday, July 16, 2023. Born April 20, 1932 on a small family farm in Walterboro, Joyce was the daughter of the late Robert Cecil Crosby and Norene Hudson Crosby. A graduate of Columbia High School, she worked for 35 years at Fort Jackson, where she met Fred, her beloved late husband of 60 years. She is survived by her children: Nancy Poston (Jim) and Mike Farmer (Carol Ann); grandchildren: Jay Poston, Dana Bourgoyne, MoMo Farmer and Paige Mathias; great-grandchildren: Graydon and Bowen Bourgoyne; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother: Robert C. "Bob" Crosby, Jr, sister: Kathleen Crosby Muckenfuss, granddaughter: Rachel Poston, and great-grandson: Reece Poston. Joyce loved her family dearly; they were always her first priority. In addition to her Civil Service career, Joyce was a wonderful homemaker, great cook, and fantastic Mother and Grandmother. Along with raising her children, she took a more than active role with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Always spoiling but also not putting up with any foolishness - she'd get the switch out when needed! She also loved babies, related or not - you could always count on her to hold and rock little ones. Joyce was a charter member of St. James United Methodist Church for over 50 years, later moving to Salem United Methodist Church, after retiring to Lake Murray. She was a lifelong Gamecock, attending Football games well into her 70's, after which she watched every game, often with a glass of wine to soothe her nerves – as watching the Gamecocks sometimes requires! While heartbroken, we know Mama and Grandma is at peace and reunited with GrandBo and her heavenly family. We will all meet again. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Lexington Medical Center/5th Floor South and The Lowman Home. The family is also grateful for the love and care provided over the past several years by Delphine Giddens and Frankie Giddens. The family would also like to thank their cousin Dr. Wayne Sribnick for his caring guidance during Joyce’s illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 1321 Salem Church Rd, Irmo, SC 29063 ( www.salemumcsc.com ) or to The Cooperative Ministry, 3821 W Beltline Blvd, Columbia, SC 29204 ( www.coopmin.org ). Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Temples-Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 29212. Services will be officiated by Reverend Lex McDonald. The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Temples-Halloran Funeral Home. Entombment will be private. A gathering will be held after the service at the family lake house at 2129 Salem Church Road, Irmo 29063.
