Columbia- The funeral service for Josephine “Jo” Anderson Whittington, 94, will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29229. The visitation will be held in the Grand Hall of the church from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Josh Desch and Reverend Eric Walter will officiate. Jo was born on May 17, 1928, in McColl, SC, and passed away on October 21, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Joseph C. Anderson and Clara Hardee Anderson. She retired after 34 years of dedicated service at Bell South. She formerly was a member of Covenant Road Presbyterian Church and was later a charter member of Northeast Presbyterian Church after. Jo was active in her Sunday School class and circle groups at the church. Jo was very active and enjoyed vacations with her family, spending time with friends, taking care of her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and devoting time to her beloved church family. Age never was a factor when she wanted to do or try anything in life. She was avid about fitness and was an active gym enthusiast for decades. In her 80s she joined a bowling team and earned herself a trophy. Walking was a passion that she had with her late husband and was an activity she enjoyed into her early 90s. Survivors included daughter, Kathy W. Upton (Joseph) of Newberry; sons, Wendell W. Whittington of Columbia, and Wayne S. Whittington (Denise) of Columbia; sister, Jackie Thompson (Joseph) Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, Robyn Bellinger, Tripp Shealy (Leigh), Sarah McFall (Dustin), April Gadsden (Heyward); great-grandchildren, Catherine Taylor, Clayton Bellinger, Coleman Bellinger, Kyrsten Shealy, Hunter Shealy, Grant Smith, Mackenzie Smith, Bryson McGuire, Lane McFall, and Kyler Gadsden; and one great-great-grandchild, Logan Taylor. Jo had many nieces and nephews from the Thompson, Fairfax, and Anderson families as well as the beloved Whittington and Vitali families. Those who preceded her in death besides her parents, and late husband Wendell were her sister, Lila Fairfax (Preston), and brother, Michael Anderson.
