Joseph Anthony Visconti, 90, of Tucson, AZ formerly of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020.He was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 14, 1929, to the late, Anthony Joseph Visconti and Phyllis Lupo Visconti. Joseph retired from the US Army after 25 years of loyal service.He served in Korea and Vietnam earning the National Defense Svc Medal w/ OLC; Vietnam Svc Medal w/2 Bronze Svc Stars; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Air Medal; Good Conduct Medal (4th Award); Army Commendation Medal; and the Bronze Star Medal.His proudest moment was when he received a letter from the Department of the Army announcing Mr. Visconti’s award of the Purple Heart!His wife received a Western Union Telegram on Feb 20, 1951, telling her Joseph was seriously wounded in action in Korea. Joseph retired from the military, but as his family will say the military never left him.After his military retirement, he worked for 15 years in the US Post Office in Miami, Florida.Joseph retired from the post office and moved to Columbia, SC residing for over 30 years before moving to Tucson, AZ. Surviving are his sisters, Arita Petty and Nancy Visconti; along with many nieces and nephews.Joseph was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Susan W. Visconti; brothers, Peter and Phillip Visconti. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2020, in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.Mr. Andy Stokes will officiate.
