Joseph Franklin Ross

September 4, 1929 — July 30, 2016

CHAPIN—Joseph F. Ross, Sr., born September 4, 1929 to Dora and John Ross. He grew up in Philadelphia where he met his lifelong best friend and true love, Margerie Lynch at the age of 15. They graduated Dobbins High School in 1947 and married July 3, 1948. They had a simple dream of growing old together by loving, honoring, respecting and supporting each other “until death do they part” . Joe died on July 30, 2016 with Marge by his side. Over 68 years, together they built a life that included six children, Bill Ross, JoAnn Bilka, Joe (Patricia) Ross, Bruce (Lisa) Ross, Robyn (John) McCaskill and Dot (Mike) Vaughn; 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Joe was a man of strong faith, a pillar of mental and physical strength, a loving, caring and supportive son, brother, husband, Dad, Pops and friend, for Joe never knew a stranger. Joe opened his own business, Ross Metal Products, was a volunteer for the Gibbsboro, N.J. Fire Dept. and a Life Member of Dutch Fork Masonic Lodge 402. In his retirement years, he worked for the S.C. State Fair Fine Arts Dept. and enjoyed his designated jobs as host, chauffeur, and model at Springmaid Watercolor Workshops in Myrtle Beach. In his spare time, he loved fishing, woodworking, photography, making pizzelles and telling tales. Joe was a kind, humble man with a big heart and generous spirit which will be truly missed by those who knew him. For God was good to Joe, he blessed him with a family and lifelong friendships - that is Joe’s legacy which will live on. Rest in Peace and “we will see you, when we see you - again.” In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 170 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29210.
