BLYTHEWOOD-Joseph Alexander Nicol, 72, of Blythewood, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2014, after a month-long struggle to overcome injuries sustained in a tragic car accident.Funeral services for Joe will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Virginia Wingard Memorial United Methodist Church, 1500 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC 29210.The Reverend Scott Smoak and Reverend John W. Culp will be officiating.The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m. in the Activity Center at the church.Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212 will be assisting the family. Joe was born January 5, 1942 in Glasgow, Scotland to late Tom and Jean Nicol.He is survived by his loving wife Jane Andrews-Nicol of Blythewood, SC, his daughter Hilary of Vancouver, Canada, his sisters, Anne O. Hyde and husband, Peter of Queenston, Canada and Jean Fleming and husband, Duncan of Shotts, Scotland; and his brothers, Tom Nicol and wife, Betty of Glasgow, Scotland and Newton Nicol, Glasgow, Scotland as well as a large number of nieces and nephews.Papa Joe will be especially missed by his grandchildren Roan, Halen, Warren, Devan and Leigh. Those who preceded him in death are his brother, Jimmy Nicol; niece, Carolyn Toehill; sister-in-law, Ann Nicol and grandson Drew Hildebrand Joe lived a rich life and will be remembered for his rapier wit, wanderlust, and love of food, fun, and golf.At the age of 69 Joe promised “one more adventure” which prompted his final move to his happy home in Blythewood, SC. His passion for his work as an Estimator took Joe around the world.His early career saw time spent in the UK, the Middle East and North America, including two local contracting firms, M. B. Kahn Construction and Ewing-Hungiville Realty & Construction.Prior to his recent retirement, he spent over a decade as the General Manager for Somers Construction in Bermuda.
