John Mciver Severance, Jr.

John McIver Severance Jr., “Johnny Mac”, of Columbia, SC, passed away peacefully at home June 30, 2024 at the age of 87 after a long illness. John was born May 28, 1937 in Florence, SC to the late John McIver Severance and Meredith Brooks Severance. He graduated from Charleston High School and attended the University of South Carolina while serving in the Army Reserves. He began his career at WIS Radio and worked in sales until retirement. John had a love of railroad history and enjoyed extensive HO railroad modeling. John was a Volvo man and drove Volvo's since 1960. He was known for being able to fix and do just about anything. John will be missed by all who knew his loving and generous spirit. John is survived by his loving wife Bettye Palmer Randall, daughter Karen Severance Powell (Brad) of Mount Pleasant, SC, son Keith Michael Severance (Charlotte) of Boise ID, Grandson Gary Spencer Severance of Colorado Springs, CO, nephew, Clay Cunningham and step-daughter Bettye Randall. He is predeceased by sister Joan Severance Cunningham, half brother, Robert “Bob” Mace, and son, Kevin McIver Severance. A private visitation and entombment will be held at Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC. The family requests no flowers.
