John Luke Lucas, Jr., 85, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. Born on August 11, 1937, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, he was the son of John Luke Lucas, Sr. and Laura Videlka Lucas. John was a football standout at Presbyterian College where he earned his degree in 1959. He played professional football for the Minnesota Vikings for one year in 1961. He was a lifelong sports fan. John spent most of his professional life as a manager at 84 Lumber, Wickes, and Lowe’s. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church and attended the John Rowland Sunday School Class. John enjoyed a life well lived. His friends and family remember his sense of humor, love of sports, and his zest for life. John is survived by his daughters, Michelle L. Weyant (Rodger) of Roswell, Georgia, and Suzanne L. Nash (Steve) of Chapin, South Carolina, and his sister, Lauren Lucas Mancini (Bob). He had five grandchildren, Austin Weyant, Samantha Nash, Cooper Weyant (Taylor), Lucas Nash, and Parker Weyant. He had two great grandchildren. John was predeceased by Carol Lusk Lucas, his wife of 52 years. A memorial service for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Union United Methodist Church (7582 Woodrow Street, Irmo, SC). The family will visit with friends at a reception at the church following the service.
