LITTLE MOUNTAIN – John Feaster went to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ on September 5, 2020.Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late John Manuel Feaster, Sr. and Ida Mae Feaster.John was raised in Columbia and graduated from Columbia High School. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Carolina with a major in English.He began his career in the Financial Services industry and worked primarily in the Information Technology field as a programmer analyst, manager, and business consultant.He was employed by PMSC and CSC for 20 years, where he was afforded many opportunities to travel internationally and provide business solutions to his clients. He retired from Grange Mutual Casualty Company in 2009. John was a man of “many colors.” He had a brilliant mind and at the age of 2 ½ was discovered to be a child prodigy and labeled in numerous newspaper articles as a “baby genius”, “wonder tot”, and “memory whiz”.One article labeled him as an “endiphant” which is a combination of the knowledge of an encyclopedia, the word command of a dictionary, and the memory of an elephant.” Even as a child, he had a thirst for knowledge. He always had a love of books and was a life-long learner.Prior to the days of technology devices, his favorite pastime was to study the encyclopedia and dictionary. He was a master at crossword puzzles because of his extensive vocabulary and could beat anyone in the family at Trivial Pursuit or Jeopardy.He was also a great bridge player because he could remember every card played. With the advent of the computer age, he became a computer techie in business and his personal life. He enjoyed research, solving problems, and strategy games. In retirement, you could find him with his nose in a book or hands at the computer while listening to his favorite music. His love and command of the English language made him a great storyteller. His hilarious (and sometimes weird) sense of humor was known by all. He had a playful and happy spirit and loved to make people laugh. As a free spirit, he lived by the “live and let live” principle. In his younger years and up until his back wouldn’t cooperate, he was an excellent dancer. He was also an avid Gamecock fan and especially enjoyed college football. He coached youth sports including baseball and football for 19 years.He loved watching his grandson, Sullivan, play soccer, baseball, and football. He was a world traveler and loved learning about the culture and history of other countries.His heart’s desire was to live by the ocean and it often called his name. He visited Hawaii nine times in his life because it was his favorite place on earth. As an animal lover, he owned dogs most of his life. His beloved pet, Spooky, was his loyal friend for 17 years. Jokingly, his family referred to Spooky as # 1 on his love list.He deeply loved his family and shared many happy times with his grandchildren including playing tea party with his only granddaughter, Crosby Jane. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife Shay Derrick Feaster; son, John Lee Feaster (Cat) of Lexington, SC; daughter, Chandelle Autry (Alex) of Columbia, SC; step-daughter, Summer Bethea of Baltimore, Maryland; grandchildren, Sullivan and Crosby Jane Feaster (John & Cat), Brice Autry (Chandelle & Alex), and Aviel, Ori and Bentzion Bethea (Summer); sister, Vonda Feaster Cox and many nephews and nieces (Stacey Branham, Melanie Rollings, Pete Cox, Stephen Cox, Jamie Player, Jessica Jordan, Sophie Derrick, Erin Derrick) and their children. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his niece Jeremy Cox, mother-in-law Viola Derrick Pebley, father-in-law Gene Derrick and brother-in-law Chip Derrick. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at East Lake Community Church located at 10057 Broad River Rd, Irmo, SC. The interment service will follow the funeral service at Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery located at 2335 Dutch Fork Rd, Chapin, SC 29036. Temples-Halloran Funeral Home is assisting the family.
