COLUMBIA--John “Johnny” Edward Dorn, Jr., 71, of Columbia, SC passed into eternal rest on August 13, 2018. John was born on April 26, 1947 in McCormick, SC to the late John and Margie (Osborne) Dorn. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Eva; daughter, Amy (Andrew) Tyson; stepson, Erik (Rachel) Manning; stepdaughter, Julie (Eddie) Esposito; sister, Susan (David) Sims; a nephew, 5 grandchildren, extended family, and many friends. John was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to all. John graduated from McCormick High School in 1965 and attended both Clemson University and the University of Georgia. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After discharge from the military, John received a Master’s degree from Eastern Illinois University in Speech Pathology. He practiced as a speech pathologist for several years before pursuing a new career in information technology. He worked for many years for the University of South Carolina Computer Services Division, and then for Terminix Services in Columbia, SC. He retired from Terminix in 2014. John was a deep thinker and an avid reader of psychology, spirituality, and history. His greatest passion, however, was college football. A lifelong Clemson fan, John exulted when his Tigers did well, and commiserated with them in defeat. His family and friends will deeply miss his excitement every September as the season kicked off. Doug Kauffmann will officiate. The family will receive friends in the chapel after the service. A private interment at the Ft. Jackson National Cemetery will be held August 27, 2018.
