Joseph (Joe) Bouknight was born in York, South Carolina on February 7, 1953, son of the late Reverend and Mrs. William R. Bouknight. He returned to his Heavenly Home on June 8, 2023. Joe was a committed Christian, a devoted father and husband, and a faithful friend. For the past 15 months, Joe battled brain tumors. Though the disease took his physical body, it could not touch his spirit that belonged to Jesus Christ. Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Clair Parker Bouknight; his three sons, Brent, Jonathan, and Blake; three grandchildren, Ashlyn, Kendall, and Joseph; his brother, Reverend Bill Bouknight (Gloria); and his sister Reverend Marie Allen (Gary). He was predeceased by his first wife, Cathy Swinnie Bouknight and his sister, Dr. Martha Johnston. Joe attended Duke University and graduated from the University of South Carolina. He spent a career in the field of Human Resources, first with Sonoco Products Company of Hartsville, SC, and later as Vice President for Human Resources with SCANA. After retirement, Joe served as an adjunct professor in the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. He was a tireless volunteer. He served as Lay Leader for Chapin United Methodist Church and was a regular teacher in the Black Sheep Sunday School Class. Joe was a regular worship leader in various nursing homes. Joe was a leader and driver for the Wheels Harbison Area Transit and took a special interest in organizations serving the community. Joe loved sports of all kinds, especially golf and tennis, and supporting the Gamecocks. But his primary love was for his Lord, and he expressed his faith best by reaching out to anyone in need.
