Jewel Catherine Howers (68) of Lexington, SC, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2023. She was born a triplet (Geraldine, Jean, Jewel) August 3, 1954 in Hemlock, Michigan. Her parents are John Francis Coughlin and Jewel Mary (Fuller) Coughlin. Jewel attended Our Lady of Mercy High school in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Furthermore, she attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan where she graduated with a degree in Education. There she met her future husband, Robert Howers, whom she referred to as “Superman”! Jewel is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert C. Howers, her sons, Jason and Patrick Howers, eight siblings: Margaret Coughlin (David Nowinski), William Coughlin (Terry), Dale Coughlin (Jennie), Geraldine Coughlin, Jean Hopper (Thomas), James Coughlin (Andrea), Mary Coughlin, Thomas Coughlin (Debi), and cousins, Shannon Coughlin and John Allen Coughlin. She is predeceased by her eldest sibling, John Francis Coughlin. Jewel has 14 nieces and nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews, and 8 great-grand nieces and nephews. Jewel enjoyed life and was a happy, outgoing person. People liked to be around her. She enjoyed summer vacations in Gaylord, Michigan at the family cabins. Jewel residences included Hemlock, Saginaw, and Royal Oak, Michigan. She moved to Columbia after marriage. Jewel’s hobbies were ceramics, collecting horse statues, and sewing. She was especially close to her triplet sisters and spent many hours on 3-way phone calls with them. Jewel had a zest for life and an adventurous spirit. Her best childhood friend was Lucy Oeming Malacos from Saginaw, Michigan now of Florida. She will be dearly missed by friends and family.
