Emma Jean Roan Parris peacefully departed this world on January 11th, 2024, in Columbia, South Carolina to return home with her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. Born on July 23rd, 1935, in Fort Myers, Florida, she was a devoted mother and grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She was the youngest of six children born to John Wesley Roan & Gladys Hatfield Roan of Fort Myers, Florida. Jean will be remembered by her devotion to her family, and her unwavering commitment to her faith. Her kindness, warmth, and selflessness touched the lives of those around her. Jean is survived by her three children: Deana West, James Parris, and Dr. Joanna (Jay) Finch, her devoted son-in-law Bill West, and her three grandchildren: Amie Parris, Sam Parris, and Caroline Clancy, of whom she was extraordinarily proud. She is also survived by her husband LeRoy Parris, daughter-in law Shannon Parris, granddaughter-in-law Madison Parris, her four great-grandchildren, and one great grandcat. In her retired years, her relationships with her two nephews, Eddie & Jeff Roan of Orlando, Florida brought her much comfort. Their support, as well as the support of their extended families, was a constant source of joy and laughter. A 1955 graduate of the Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing, she was a devoted nurse and healthcare professional. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of South Carolina Spartanburg in 1985, and eventually retired with the Spartanburg County Health Department after a decades-long career of serving her patients and the greater Spartanburg community. In her passing, we remember Jean not only as a beloved mother and grandmother, but as a beacon of love and strength. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew her, and her legacy will continue through her kindness and her many incredible recipes. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so generously shared throughout her remarkable life. A celebration of her wonderful life will be announced and held at a future date in her hometown of Fort Myers, Florida.
