COLUMBIA—Mr. James E. “Jake” Carter, 95, of Columbia, died Monday July 27, 2015 at Dorn VA Medical Center.A funeral service for Mr. Carter will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Temples Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212 with Dr. Ronald D. “Dee” Vaughan officiating.Entombment will follow in the Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Military Honors.The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Born in Soperton, GA, he was the son of the late Martin T. Carter and Zemmie Hammock Carter.Jake proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was awarded the EAMET Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, as well as the Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. Mr. Carter was a master carpenter, most of his working time where he worked for Boyd Construction Company. Mr. Carter formerly attended Colonial Heights Baptist church and were later member s of St. Andrews Baptist Church.Jake was a longtime member of Eau Claire Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his loving wife, Lela Mae Carter of 71 years; daughters, Frances Wooten (Mickey) and Joyce Eddings(Otis L. “Eddie” Jr.); grandchildren, Don Fabrizio (Jodi), Alana Bledsoe, Melanie Ruder (Chris), Melissa Wells (Steve), Creighton Eddings (Lee); 8 great-grandchildren.
