Jacob Patterson (JP) Temple, 91, of Lexington, entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 3, 2023. Born on a farm in Batesburg, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Patterson and Ersie Bodie Temple. JP graduated from Batesburg-Leesville High School. Then he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Japan. JP taught in vocational schools most of his life, first at Columbia Technical Education Center (now known as Midlands Technical College) and retiring from John G. Richards School for the State of South Carolina. He also operated Temple Used Cars until retirement. JP loved raising cows, more for pets than anything else. Antique cars were his passion. He was a member of the Palmetto A’s of South Carolina. JP was a Charter member of Saluda River Baptist Church. Our father would always say his greatest accomplishment of all was meeting and marrying our late mother, Margie Yarborough Temple. JP and Margie were married for 63 years until her passing on March 10, 2017. Surviving are his loving children; Dale Temple (Diane), Mark Temple, Kaye Lorick (Bobby), Anita Miles (John) and Jeff Temples (Emily); Grandchildren, Danielle Beelke ( Andrew) , Brittany Lorick and Samantha Rogers (Michael), brothers, David Temple (Jean), Kenneth Temple ( Carolyn) and sisters-in-law Ann, Trudie and Joyce. He was preceded death, in addition to his wife and parents, by siblings, Mary Butler, Lona Whittle, Robert, Claude, and Grady Temple. JP was also preceded in death by many of our four-legged Chihuahua siblings. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Saluda River Baptist Church, 3459 Sunset Blvd, West Columbia, SC 29169 at 1:00 p.m. The family will greet friends at the church following the service. A private family graveside service will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens (700 W. Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170) with honors by the US Army. The family would like to express their appreciation to Carolina Gardens for their care of JP and to Three Oaks Hospice for their care of JP at the end of his life. The family would also like to acknowledge their love and appreciation for our sister, Kaye Lorick, for her steadfastness in caring for JP. Memorials may be made to Saluda River Baptist Church, 3459 Sunset Blvd, West Columbia SC 29169, or adopt a loving stray from your local Animal Shelter.
