JCOLUMBIA—Funeral services for Jabe Sanders Mars, Jr., 73, of Columbia, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.Jabe Mars, III will be officiating.Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens.The family will greet friends and relatives from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Mars, beloved husband of the late Mary Ann Duke Mars, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016.Born in Valdosta, GA he was the son of the late Jabe S. Mars, Sr. and Lucille (Overstreet) Mars. Mr. Mars moved to Columbia, SC in 1976 and opened a water works supply business. After selling his business, he spent many years with the State Fire Marshal's Office inspecting daycares and foster homes, until he retired to care for his wife. He loved driving the back roads of Columbia searching for old cars and new people to talk to. He enjoyed helping anyone in need who crossed his path. Anyone he met was a friend for life. He is survived by his son, Jabe S. Mars III, his son's fiancée, Susan Clark of North Augusta, and three grandchildren: Jabe Mars IV, Victoria Mars, and Morgan Mars.
