IRMO—Isaac Sheldon French passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2015.He was born on September 11, 1921, in New Bern, NC to the late Louis Henry and Ida Mae French.Ike attended public school in New Bern, NC and joined the N.C. National Guard in 1939 before being called to active duty in 1940.He served in the Army for 26 years and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European theater. Ike served on the faculty of the Artillery Guided Missile School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.Also, Ike was a charter member of the Seven Oaks Lions Club. Ike is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 70 years, Frances Hammond French and daughter, Dianne Butcher and sons, Robert, Douglas (Sherry) and Gary (Beth). In addition, there are 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Riverland Hills Baptist Church, 201 Lake Murray Blvd., Irmo, SC 29063. The service will be officiated by Dr. Ed Carney, Dr. Tim Phillips and Rev. Wayne Cole. Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens.Active pallbearers will be Ike’s grandsons, Scott Butcher, Brian French, Michael French, Timmy French, Marshall French and Elliott French.The Lamplighter Sunday School class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Benevolence Fund at Riverland Hills Baptist Church, 201 Lake Murray Blvd., Irmo, SC 29063.
