West Columbia—A Celebration of Life Service for Irene Barron Scarborough Brinkley, 72, of West Columbia, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church,530 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29210, with Reverend Jana Creighton and Reverend Alice Odell will officiate.A private burial will be held at Woodridge Memorial Park.The family will greet friends following the service at the church. Irene Brinkley, beloved wife of Richard Henry Brinkley, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018.Born inCharlotte, NC to the late Robert Lee Scarborough and Irene McQueen Barron Scarborough.She grew up on the family farm, Center State Farm in Eastover, SC. She was a member of Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church and a 1969 graduate of Columbia College and she later received her Masters Degree from Clemson University in 1973.She taught for 13 years at Monaview Elementary School in the Greenville SC District and Irmo Middle School Campus I for 15 years.Irene was a member of Granby Chapter of the DAR and a member of Quail Hollow Garden Club. Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Richard H. Brinkley, Jr.; sisters, Sara Delphine Scarborough. and Virginia Ann Scarborough Hollifield (David Leroy); brother, William Barron Scarborough (Elizabeth “Beth” Barker); nieces and nephews, Robert Sanders Hogan (Kristen), Margaret Elizabeth Hollifield, Mary Florence Scarborough, Nancy Barron Scarborough and Joseph William Scarborough; her four-legged son, Magic.She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Lee Scarborough, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church,530 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29210 or NAMI Mid-Carolina, PO Box 2526, Columbia, SC 29202.
