Hoyt Fletcher Winn, 88, of Irmo passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023. Born in Ward, SC, he was the son of the late M.P. (Jack) Winn and Essie Lee Crouch Winn. Hoyt proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He served for 20 years and retired as a Senior Chief. Hoyt served during the Vietnam Conflict and participated in the Cuban Blockade. After his retirement from the Navy, Hoyt worked in construction equipment parts sales. Hoyt was an avid Gamecock fan. Hoyt enjoyed watching Gamecock football and baseball. In July of 1957, he met his wife Janath on the beach in Panama City. They married in October of the same year. Hoyt is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Janath. He is also mourned by his two sons, Jerry Winn (Belinda) and Rodger Winn (Karen), his daughter Deborah Allingham (Dr. Tom) and six grandchildren Christopher Winn (Nichole), Monica Winn, Jessica Derrick (Blake), Kyle Winn, Michael Byrd (Brandy) and Thomas Allingham III. Seven great-grandchildren, Natalie, Dustin, Colson, Aiden, Kadence, Donavan, and Carson. Hoyt’s brother M.P. Winn (Marian) also survives him. Besides his parents, Hoyt was predeceased by his brother Wyman Winn and sister Elizabeth Derrick. A military funeral service will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at the church 1 hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Burial will follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia S.C. 29212.
