WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Hope Anne Furtado, 60, of West Columbia, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at Reformation Lutheran Church, 1118 Union Street, Columbia, SC 29201 with Pastor Tim Bupp officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Ave., Columbia, SC 29201. The family will greet friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Hope passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016.Born in Fall River, MA. She was the daughter of the late Manuel Furtado and Lorraine Herbert Furtado of Bristol, RI.She has been a area resident for over 30 years, formerly of Austin, TX, but growing-up in Bristol, Rhode Island.Served in the United States Army, she moved to SC to work for PMSC in 1980’s and currently was employed at Dick Smith Automotive Group as an Office Administrator.She loved Jet Skiing and entered many competitions, Hope played Recreational Softball in Rhode Island. Hope loved visiting her nieces and nephews and enjoyed watching her nephew, Eric race the #12 Legends Car at the Southern National Motorsport Park in Kenly, NC. Surviving are her sisters Deborah Leonard and husband Steve of Rumford, RI, Mary Lee Courtney and husband William of Clayton, NC,Susan Staples of Thurman, NY, Michele Bajek and husband Ed of Naples, FL; brother Joseph Furtado ofBristol, RI ;nieces and nephews, Mallory Casciole, Paula Staples, Craig Leonard, Martin Leonard, Christopher Courtney, Eric Courtney, Alyssa Bajek and Brianna Bajek. Hope was very active in her community and an advocate for LBGT rights. Hope leaves behind many life-long friends in both Austin, TX and Columbia, SC.
