COLUMBIA—Henry Yates Caudle, Sr., 89, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 after a short illness.He was born in Charlotte, NC to the late William Lester Caudle and Carrie Beulah Nance Caudle. Yates was a Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He subsequently retired from the S.C. Workman’s Compensation Commission and stayed active volunteering his time. Yates was a member of the Columbia Twirlers Square Dance Club and Dutch Fork Camping Club.He was an exceptional “handyman” and able to do many types of jobs in this field.He loved to help people with projects volunteering his time.Up until his death Yates had a gardens and always had a project going.He was full of energy and vitality and was a mentor to many including his extended family of Jan.He was loved, revered and affectionately called “Papa Yates” and will be missed by all who knew him.Papa Yates was a generous and kind soul. Yates is survived by his companion of 25 years, Mrs. Jan Holland; son, Henry Caudle, Jr. and granddaughter, Elizabeth Elmore; brother, Robert Caudle: sisters, Doris Dotson, Ava Hunnicuitt, Ann Wallace and Carol Brewer. Yates was predeceased in death by daughter, Teresa Caudle Bradock; brother, Theron Caudle; wife and the mother of his children, Barbara Owen Caudle. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.The family will receive friends 10-11 a.m. prior the service at the funeral home. Memorial may be made to one’s choice.
