Helen Leatherwood Wall

Helen Leatherwood Wall, 49, of Columbia passed away on July 23, 2016 after a short battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 4:00 P.M. at the Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Friends will be received immediately following the service. Helen was born in Sumter, SC on October 1, 1966. She spent her early years in Sumter, later moving to Columbia.She attended Airport High School and later went to a technical college to receive a Certificate in Health Benefits Administration. After spending some time in Missouri, she returned to Columbia where she was employed as the Financial Services Coordinator with the Alston Wilkes Society for the past 15 years. While at the Society, Helen was a recipient of the Alston Wilkes Society Employee of the Year Award. She was forever devoted to her children, her family and her beloved dogs. She loved gardening and remodeling her homes. Most of all she loved spending time in the pluff mud of the marshes or shrimping with her late father and family at Hunting Island in Beaufort, SC. Helen was the daughter of the late Robert (Bobby) E. Wall, Jr. and his wife Linda of Camden.She is survived by her husband, Lee W. Baird; her sons Guy L. Pitts and Thomas M. Pitts both of Columbia and a granddaughter Keelee Rayne Pitts.She is also survived by her siblings, Bobby (Angie) Wall of Lugoff, Melissa Evans of Sumter and Ben (Crystal) Wall of Camden and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Preston Wall of Camden. Helen was also devoted to her step father, the late David L. Evans, Jr. and his wife, Anne Walker, of Sumter. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alston Wilkes Society, 3519 Medical Drive, Columbia, SC 29203; the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, P. O. Box 32141, New York, NY 10087-2141 or to the Patient Access Network (PAN) Foundation, PO Box 221858, Charlotte, NC 28222.
