LEXINGTON--Helen Parker Dillard, 89, died peacefully Monday, November 28, 2016. Born April 11, 1927 in Fannin County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Bunyan Colmon and Fannie Mae Parker. A service is scheduled for 1 p.m., Thursday December 1, at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church, 530 St Andrews Rd, Columbia, SC 29210.Temples Halloran Funeral Home is assisting the family. She married her husband of 62 years, Robert A. Dillard (Bob) on February 3, 1949 in Atlanta.The couple lived in Atlanta, Georgia, Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee and Augusta, Georgia, before moving to Columbia, SC in 1972. She was an active volunteer, serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother, PTAboard member and church worker. She was a 25-year member of Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church.She and her husband Bob served with the US National Park Service as volunteer Camp Hosts at DeSoto Falls Recreation Area in northeast Georgia for ten years.They were honored for their service and profiled on CNN and the Atlanta Ga. newspapers. Helen Dillard enjoyed a large circle of friends, staying in touch with several of them for over 60 years. She is survived by two sons and was close to her daughters-in-law: Michael Robert and Lynn Walter Dillard and Mark Alexander and Emalee Evans Dillard.She treasured her three grand-daughters and their husbands:Amie Dillard Freeman (Chris), Christina Dilllard Smith (Tony) and Alison Dillard Forbes (Ray).She was blessed with one great-grandchild, Mia Elizabeth Freeman. She is survived also by her brother, Barney Parker (Dawn) and many nephews and nieces. In additional to her husband, Bob, she was predeceased by her parents and siblings Gene Parker, Earl Parker, Willie Parker, Evelyn Fields, and Howard Parker.
