CHAPIN—Hazel L. Englert Mercer, 79, of Chapin, died on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge Hospital in Columbia, SC. Born on November 7, 1934, in Nebraska, she was the daughter ofRalph and Gladys Sparks Carr.She was married to the late James V. Englert and then to the late Marvin L. Mercer. Professionally, she worked in the Newspaper field most of her life.She retired from the State Newspaper in Columbia, SC. She is survivied by her son, Victor (Ciel) Englert; her three grandchildren, Sandy (Blair) Martin, Brandy (Justin) Price, Cory Englert; her four great grandchildren, Courtney Martin, William “Will” Martin, Ellison Price and Elin Price; her three stepsons, Michael (Leslie) Mercer, Jackie (Jack) Mercer and Richard (Christine) Mercer; her six grandchildren, Patrick (Karlene) Mercer, Darcey Mercer, Matthew Mercer, Lindsey (Kevin) Gaona, Ashley Mercer, Christopher Mercer, Marcus Mercer, Michael Mercer, and Amber Mercer; her three great-grandchildren, Breanna Nelson, Tatum Mercer and Pax Gaona. He was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Gladys Beard and step-father, Edward Beard; three brothers, Clifford, Jack and Dick; and two sisters, Georgia Hujik and Irene Boyd; and two step-brothers, Bill and James Beard. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2014 at New Life Chapel Lowman Home, 2101 Dutch Fork Road, Chapin, SC 29036. Officiating will be Reverend Christine Parham, Chaplain of the Lowman Home. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 2-3 p.m. at the Lowman Home.Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212,will be assisting the family. Memorial may be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 215 St. Thomas Church Road, Chapin, SC 29036.
