Raleigh, NC - Harry Donald McCreary, 89, of Raleigh, NC formerly of Columbia, died Tuesday, September 22, 2015.He was born and raised in Lititz, PA. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima aboard LSM-46, received a Purple Heart for his injuries and actions the day of United States Flags were raised on Mount Suribachi.As a husband and father, he entered the University of Delaware and received a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1960.He retired after a career with Allied-Signal in Hopewell, VA, Moncure, NC and Columbia, SC as a construction site supervisor. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Joan Pickett McCreary; his parents, Harry Whitcraft McCreary and Mae Flory McCreary; two sisters, Esther Robinson and Lillian Gates; two brothers, Harold McCreary and Robert McCreary. He is survived by his wife, Agnes Werner Graham; daughter, Jane Hebb Siragusa (James) of Birmingham, AL; sons, William McCreary (Wendy Paul) of Columbia, SC and Allen McCreary (France) of Hanahan, SC; granddaughters, Lindsey McCreary and Hannah McCreary of Hanahan, SC; brother-in-law, Oscar Pickett (Fay) of Pensacola, FL; step-children, Sharon Graham Felton (Alfonzo) and Clifford Graham (Karla) both of Raleigh, NC; two step-granddaughters, and nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 in Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Officiating will be Pastor Joshua Baulding.
