Harry Lane Holder,

June 18, 1930 — January 10, 2017

LEXINGTON—Harry “Duck” Lane Holder Sr., age 86, of Lexington, SC, went to be with the Lord on January 10th, 2017 at Palmetto Health Heart Hospital in Columbia, SC. Born June 18th, 1930 in Durham, NC, he was the son of Robert Lofford Holder and Susan Edna Roberts Holder. He was a 1949 graduate of Central High School in Charlotte, NC where he was a star tailback for the Wildcats football team. He served as a navigator in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-1956. During this time he was united in holy matrimony to his high school sweetheart, Margaret Leah Petree, on March 21, 1954. After serving his country, he attended the University of North Carolina, playing tailback for the Tarheels and graduating with a BA of Arts in 1958. He started his career as a salesman in the welding supply business; his position took many forms over the years (vice president, business owner etc.), until he retired in 1992. He attended church regularly, serving as an elder and singing bass in the choir for as long as he was able. He was also a member of the York County Choral Society. Harry enjoyed watching football, going to “the beach”, traveling with his friends, sweet tea, Bojangles, his family and above all his wife of nearly 63 years! His parents and his five brothers and sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Leah; son, Lane (Terri) of Irmo, SC, son, Kirk (Patty) of Lexington, SC; daughter, Margaret (John) Gunden of Caseville, MI; grandchildren, Kevin (Mellisa) Holder, Harrison (Rachel) Gunden, Kelly (Ryan) Snipes, Anne Holder, Emily (Ryan) Badgerow, Graham (Sarah) Gunden, Gretta Gunden, Robert Holder, Maggie, Iva & Mercy Gunden; Brian (Kendra) Turk, Emily (Tyler) Tisdale and great- grandchildren, Harmony Badgerow; Millie, Patrick & Benjamin Turk and four great grandchildren due in Jan, May, July and Aug 2017. A service will be held on Sunday, January 15th, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church, 5503 Sunset Blvd., Lexington, SC 29072. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Compassion International, Colorado Springs, CO 80997.
