CHAPIN—Lieutenant Harold Lloyd (H.L.) Gerrald passed away peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2016. He was born on June 30, 1934 in Horry County of parents John H. Gerrald and Ina P. Gerrald. He was predeceased by his brother, E. LaRue Gerrald. He was loved and adored by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Gerrald, and children, L. Mitchell “Mitch” Stephens (Patricia) and Angela “Darlene” Stephens, and granddaughter Lindsey E. Bible, as well as many other family members and friends. He graduated from Green Sea Floyds High School (1952) and went on to serve in the US Navy (1952-1956). The bulk of his career spanned over thirty years on the SC Highway Patrol (1958-1989) where he earned the rank of Lieutenant. Throughout his life, H.L. loved God and made his involvement in the church a priority. He was an active member of Chapin Presbyterian Church where he especially enjoyed Sunday School, Men’s Bible Study, and activities for seniors. H.L. was a 32nd Degree Freemason and was inducted into the fraternity over 50 years ago in Charleston. Most recently, he was a member of the Jamil Shrine Temple in Columbia and loved to support the annual circus through ticket donations to children. H.L was also a member of the SC Troopers Association and the Turtle Fishing Club. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and had a passion for the outdoors. He especially loved birds and landscape beautification. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Chapin Presbyterian Church, 600 Old Lexington Hwy., Chapin, SC 29036 conducted by Reverend Tim Hanley. Entombment will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 5400 Bush River Rd., Columbia, SC 29212. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Temple–Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Rd., Columbia, SC 29212. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Chapin Presbyterian Church, 600 Old Lexington Hwy., Chapin, SC 29036.
