Gloria Rowe Dempsey

Gloria Jean Rowe Dempsey, 97, of West Columbia, SC, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023. She was born on June 25, 1926, in Saluda, SC, to Andrew and Nancy Palmer Rowe. Gloria was raised in Newberry, SC, and graduated from Newberry High School. She graduated from St. Joseph College with a degree in Healthcare. She was the first employee health nurse at Columbia Hospital. Then she went to Richland Memorial Hospital in the same capacity. Gloria retired from the Department of Long-Term Care where she helped develop the Levels of Long-Term Care. She was a long-time member of St. Andrews Baptist Church. Gloria is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Dempsey, who took care of her during her last years and loved her very much. She is also survived by her sons, Carl R. Dempsey, Jr., and Richard Kem Dempsey (Janis), and her grandchildren, Allison, Christen, and Gabe Dempsey. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl R. Dempsey, Sr., and her four sisters and two brothers. The family asks that memorial gifts be sent to St. Andrews Baptist Church (230 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210).
