LEXINGTON-A graveside service for Gertrude “Trudie” Hudson Newton, 89, of Lexington will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2017 in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29209. She passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017.Her husband, Charles B. Newton, SMSGT (USAF, Ret.) who passed away February 4, 2011, will be interred with her and will receive military honors.Reverend Paul Allen, Chapin United Methodist Church (CUMC), SC and Reverend Philip Hudson, Mill Creek Church of God, WV, Mrs. Newton’s Nephew, will officiate. The family will greet friends 10:00 -12:00 Noon Friday, August 4, 2017 at Temples- Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Born in Forest City, FL, Mrs. Newton was the daughter of the late Charlie Newton Hudson and Beulah Hagler Hudson. While working in Washington D.C. she met her future husband on a blind date, married her handsome Airman, and spent her first 20 married years proudly supporting her husband while he served in the U.S. Air Force, enjoying overseas duty stations in Bermuda and S. Korea. Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years. Surviving is her daughter, Bev Vogt (Bob, LTC USA, Ret.) of Chapin; son, Stephen Newton of Columbia; granddaughters, Brigitte McCord (GY SGT Bradley James McCord, USMC) and Crystal Ortiz (MAJ Ryan Ortiz, USAF); great-grandchildren, Bradley James McCord, Jr., Caydence Elaine McCord and Gabriella Marie Ortiz.Mrs. Newton was also preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Baylock and brothers, JB Hudson, Travis Hudson, Raymond Hudson, Beauford Hudson, and Macom Hudson, all of Florida. The family appreciates the almost 10 years of care and support provided to Mrs. Newton by the staff of Lexington Medical Center Extended Care, and in particular, Lexington Trace Care Unit. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Leeza’s Care Connection, 201 St. Andrews Rd., Columbia, SC 29210 and/or CUMC, 415 Lexington Ave., Chapin, SC 29036.
