Geraldine “Gerry or GG” Stephenson Durant, 84, of Irmo, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024. She was born to James Aubrey Stephenson and Lacy White Stephenson in Raleigh, North Carolina, on June 24, 1940. Gerry graduated from Garner High School and earned an Associate degree in Secretarial Sciences at Peace College. While she had a variety of careers, her favorite was Southern First Bank, where she was a secretary for 10 years. Gerry lived life to its fullest with a kindred spirit. She was like a ray of sunshine and brightened every room she entered. She never met a stranger and most people who knew her, would say she always had a vibrant zest for life. She spent much of her childhood at Carolina Beach, where she discovered one of her favorite hobbies, dancing to beach music. She was a member of the Shag Club, danced weekly and met many of her closest friends. Her three daughters were her passion and she loved nothing more than spending time with them and their families at the beach. Enjoying family brought her great happiness and if it were up to her, our entire family would still reside under one roof. Left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Kim Holland (Steve), Dawn Raab (Lesslie Knight), and Leigh Golightly (Sam); her grandchildren, Ryan and Reid Golightly, Hunter and Aubrie Holland. She was preceded in death by her parents and the father of her children, Ted Raab. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Temples-Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, Irmo, SC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. with a service to follow officiated by the Reverend Bill Haselden. Per her request, she would love nothing more than for you to honor her by wearing something bright to her celebration. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a gift in Gerry’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (St. Jude).
