Gerald "Jerry" C. Burton

The graveside service for Gerald C. “Jerry” Burton, Sr., 91, of Columbia, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2021, in Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Temples Halloran Funeral Home.Reverend Dr. Mark Bredholt will officiate. Jerry was born in Newberry County, SC on December 27, 1929, and departed this life on November 28, 2021.He was the son of the late Thomas Clyde Burton and Maude Smith Burton.He was a former member of both Union UMC and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.Jerry had retired as a construction foreman from the University of South Carolina after 25 years of dedicated service.He owned Burton Professional Coatings and operated his contracting company for several years.Jerry found great satisfaction in working with his clients. Jerry served his country during the Korean war with US Marine Corp. Survivors include several sons, a daughter, and their spouses; several grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.Those who preceded him in death besides his parents, was his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Burton.
