Gary E. Shirley

September 25, 1949 — September 13, 2016

Gary “Pop” Shirley September 25, 1949 – September 13, 2016 Gary was a US Navy veteran and he and his wife owned Catering By Design. He was a“loving” husband to Lucy (Sharon) of 47 “happy” years, a wonderful daddy to Lisa, Stevie and Lori. aggravator to Mel (favorite daughter-in-law), and even more than a friend and father-in-law to Jamie. He was a remarkable grandfather to Bailey, Carley, Charleston, Jeremy, Hannah and Courtney and great-grandfather to Journey. Gary was the loving Son of Emma Shirley, brother to Mark Shirley (Debbie), brother-in-law to Teresa Weber (Kenny), Larry Carter, and Mimie Brown (Tommy), as well as a Kooky uncle to Chad, Alison, Melissa (Nathan), Crystal (Brian), Amy, Adam (Stephanie), and Alex (Cristina). And, he was a Great-Uncle to numerous kids who knew him as Papaw Gary. There is no way to put into words how much Gary meant to both family and friends. He made a difference in everyone’s life he touched. You either loved him, were annoyed by him, and/or laughed at him.You could either take him or leave him. He was one of those people who cannot be described with mere words. His attitude, soft heart, work ethic, all made him absolutely one of a kind! There will never be another Pop. Memories of Gary are so unique and he had so much wit, but you know what, you will never forget him and his saying “sheeeeeyaattt”.He was such a magnificent person that words could never describe him, but he will always have a place in our hearts. We know he is up there saying…………“I’ll see ya!”. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made in honor of Gary to hospicenet.org.
