Gabriel William Mainhood

We are sad to announce the passing of Gabriel Mainhood, age 41, on Friday, December 9th, 2022. He died at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC, with his mother by his side, after a 3-year battle with cancer. He was born in Grossmont, La Mesa, CA on September 19th, 1981, and lived most of his life in San Diego, CA. He moved to Portland, OR where he studied Media Arts and Animation Art at the Institute of Portland, and most recently moved to South Carolina to live out his days near the coast. He was a lover of creative arts, video games, creating board games (our family loves to play his game!), reading books, and enjoying a good sci-fi movie. Gabriel loved animals, and always had a kitten or two by his side, and let's not forget his beloved dog, Hex. Gabriel loved to take rides on his motorcycle, and even got himself a sidecar for his side-kick pup. He loved to travel back to CA, and retreat into the mountains near Yosemite, where his mother and brothers reside. He loved spending time with his friends and cherished every person that made an impact on his life. He will be most remembered for his impeccable and sardonic sense of humor (some may have loved it more than others!), his deep booming voice that came with the most honest and memorable laugh, and the impression he made on other people. Between his well-known political views, religious views, and never-ending knowledge of the most random stuff, he was a great conversationalist and someone you simply could never forget! Gabriel was a child of God, and even through his struggles battling lung cancer (Gabriel never smoked a day in his life), as well as his previous near-death car accident and life-long health issues that followed, his faith never wavered. We are so sad to say goodbye to Gabriel but comforted to know that he is with his Savior now and at peace. Gabriel is preceded in death by his grandfather, Roderick Mainhood, and his uncle, Nathan Mainhood. He is survived by his mother, Jacquline (Patrick) McClure of Yosemite, CA, brothers, Jordan and Seth McClure of Fresno CA; father, John Tree and his wife, Cheryl of Chapin, SC; grandmother, JoAnn Mainhood of Oregon City, OR, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins spread out between Oregon, Washington, Michigan, and New Hampshire. A Memorial Service for Gabriel will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Temples Halloran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Allen officiating. The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
