Fay Seitz Cavanagh

September 27, 1946 — November 16, 2023

Fay Seitz Cavanagh was born on September 27, 1946, in Biloxi, Mississippi, and departed this life on November 16, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Harold M. Seitz and Dorothy Arguelles Seitz. Mrs. Cavanagh, after moving from Aiken, SC to Columbia, SC in 1985, worked for many years at the Todd and Barber Law Firm, and then various law firms throughout Columbia until 2020. She was of the Catholic faith and was a member of both Our Lady of the Hills and St. Peter’s, serving in both of their choirs. Fay was active for many years at Seven Oaks Park as a sports bookkeeper, and a devoted sports parent to her son, Warren. She was a proud South Carolina Gamecock fan and you could see her at most, if not all of the baseball, women’s basketball, and football games, earning the name “Momma Fay” among the players. Fay never met a stranger and if you were lucky enough to be “her people,” she treated you just like family, willing to give you the shirt off her back. Mrs. Cavanagh was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Raymond M. Cavanagh. She is survived by her son Warren T. Cavanagh and his wife Anna; granddaughter Jordan Cavanagh; and her brother Harold M. Seitz Jr. The family would like to thank NHC of Lexington for the loving care, compassion, and support they provided Fay. A Catholic Prayer Service for Fay Seitz Cavanagh, 77, of Columbia, will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Temples-Halloran Funeral Home. Deacon Tom Souza of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 12:50 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department K9 Foundation.
