Evelyn Grabeel Scott

Evelyn Grabeel Scott, 87, of Columbia, passed away on September 1, 2024. She was a resident of Forest Acres Acute Care from 2019 until her death. Evelyn was born and raised in Rose Hill, Virginia, and moved to the Richmond, Virginia, area to attend college. She lived in Colonial Heights, Virginia, most of her life until moving to Columbia in November 2017. Born on April 5, 1937, she was the daughter of Elsa and Sanders Grabeel. She graduated from Thomas Walker High School in 1954 at the age of 15 as the valedictorian of her class. She attended Emory and Henry College for a year before transferring to Richmond Professional Institute (now Virginia Commonwealth University). Evelyn worked for Southern Department Stores in Williamsburg, Virginia, for over 45 years as the Advertising Director. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include her children, Melissa Steiner (Mitch), Sandra Willis-Rodgers (Michael), Randall Russell (Kelly), and Thomas Winfield Scott; her grandchildren, Benjamin Willis (Cameron), Emily Willis-Geiger, Teddy Roberts (Hunter), Cody Russell, Ashley Steiner (Charles), Alyssa Steiner, and Amanda Steiner; and her great-grandchildren, Oaklee Roberts, Sawyer Willis, Atley Willis, Sydney Bertrand, and Cohen Bertrand; and her brother, Frank Grabeel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elsa and Sanders Grabeel; her husband, Donald Scott; her brother, Edward Grabeel; and former husbands, David Willis, father of Sandra Willis Rogers; and Arthur Laine, father of Melissa Laine Steiner. Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Daughters of the American Revolution in Evelyn’s memory.
