Evelyn Meador Miller

WEST COLUMBIA—Evelyn Meador Miller, 88, of West Columbia, SC died Monday, March 9, 2015. She was born to the late Judson Felder Meador and Leannie Carter Meador, August 7, 1926, in Union SC.Evelyn graduated from Union High School and Winthrop University.She married the late Dr. Fred S. Miller, Jr., in 1950. Evelyn was more than a pastor’s wife; she was Fred’s partner in ministry for sixty-four years as they served in four SC congregations: Lower Fairforest Baptist, Union; Scranton Baptist, Scranton; Fort Johnson Baptist, Charleston, and Saint Andrews Baptist, Columbia, as well as fifteen interim churches throughout the state. Though she was gifted and honored to serve in a variety of capacities including church pianist/organist, President of the SC Baptist Ministers’ Wives, and a term as a member of the WMU Executive Board, Evelyn loved the Lord above all else, and regarded her role as a pastor’s wife and mother as her highest calling.Whether in visiting the homes of church members, making hospital visits, traveling to conventions, or inviting guest into their home, Evelyn shared the gospel of Jesus and touched the lives of countless families through the years. Evelyn is survived by three sons: Samuel Judson Miller (Mimi) of Summerville, David Michael Miller (Susan) of Charleston, SC and Stephen Frederick Miller of Greenville, SC.She also is survived by one grandson, Jason Michael Miller of Wilmington, NC.She was predeceased by five brothers, Melvin Gibbs Meador, Morris Hester Meador, Benjamin Felder Meador, Meredith Brown Meador, and Judson Edward Meador, and one sister, Sarah Lucille Meador. A memorial service will be held at Saint Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210 on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.Dr. Ronald “Dee” Vaughan and Reverend M. Fred DeFoor, Jr. will officiate.The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. in the church chapel prior to the service.Burial will be private.Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212 is assisting the family.
