WEST COLUMBIA—The memorial service for Ernest J. Haar, 99, of West Columbia, will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212 with the Reverend Dr. Mark Bredholt officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Mr. Haar was born in Jersey City, NJ on October 2, 1918 and passed away on February 7, 2018. He was the son of the late Joseph Haar and Christiane Holl Haar. Ernest proudly served his country in the US Army Airforce where he was awarded the European African Medal, the Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Cluster, theDistinguished Flying Cross and French Legion Honor Award from the French Foreign Ambassador in June of 2013 at Dock Street Theater in Charleston, SC. Mr. Haar has a successful business career, retiring as Vice President of the Lithonia Lighting Company. He was a very avid golfer having a 2 handicap at one point. Mr. Haar had played in many PGA Pro-Ams from Scotland to Hawaii and many other US courses. Surviving are his daughter, Cris Payne (Jack) of Columbia; grandchildren, Brian Floyd, Eric Floyd (Melanie) and Keith Floyd (Mercy); great-grandchildren, Emilee, Grayson, MaKenzie, Lauren, Tyler, Sydney, Riley and Porter; great-great grandchildren, Tanner and Westan Grice; as well as a large number of nieces and nephews.
