Ellen Simmons Cogdill

IIRMO-Ellen Simmons Cogdill passed away on Tuesday, August 25th. A beloved mother and grandmother, she will be missed by many. Ellen was born on April 2, 1931 to Thelma and William Simmons in New Prospect, S.C. and had five siblings. She graduated from New Prospect High School where she was a member of the girls’ basketball and softball teams. She graduated from Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. Ellen was a Registered Nurse and after working for a private practice in Spartanburg, worked for many years at Richland Memorial Hospital. Later in life, needlework and gardening were Ellen's favorite hobbies along with enjoying her grandchildren. Ellen is survived by her husband Gary Cogdill of Lexington, and five children and their spouses: Alan and Kris Cogdill of Chapin, Melanie Cogdill of Columbia, Lisa and Dave Pfeifer of Columbia, Kelly and Tom Hennelly of Roswell, GA, Suzie and Jeffrey Yeager of Peachtree City, GA as well as 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Dot Garrett and Jean Simmons of S.C. A Memorial Gathering will be held at 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.
