West Columbia— Bam, as many knew her, went home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband Jimmy on March 16, 2017. She was born on August 29, 1927 in Walthourville, GA the daughter of Wilhelmina Hutto Moody and Herbert Cecil Moody. She moved to Aiken, SC at an early age, graduated from Aiken High and attended the University of South Carolina. She was a very talented ballet dancer and performed in summer stock in Florida and traveled to New York to study dance. In 1947 she and James W. Ratliff Jr married, had three children and became very active in the Forest Lake community. While her children were young, she shared her ballet and dance skills by working at Foster School of Dance. Even while working full time she was instrumental in the birth of St. Michael and All Angels Church, helped create the Forest Baseball League out of six local Cub Scout Troops, and was the first president of the new Satchelford Road School PTA. Music was her passion, the piano being her favorite instrument, and on it she composed and transcribed many beautiful songs. For many years she was an integral part of the worship ministry of her church, arranging music and playing the piano. She fostered her love of music in her children and grandchildren and freely shared her collection of guitars, keyboards and more. She and husband Jimmy were very hospitable and frequently hosted church picnics, meetings and other gatherings in their home. Over this past year in declining health, her spiritual strength, grace, and determination to “be content in all things” was such an example to family and friends. Surviving are children, Dr. James W. Ratliff III and wife, Dyanne Gist, daughters Patricia Ratliff Kahle and husband Robert, and Elizabeth Ratliff Cohen and husband, David, and brother, Philip M. Moody. She also had many grandchildren and great grands whom she loved dearly. The family will be having a private memorial service.
