Caroline Hatchell

Funeral services for Caroline Hatchell, 54, of Columbia, will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Riverland Hills Baptist Church (201 Lake Murray Boulevard, Irmo, SC 29063). The Reverend Tim Hawkins will officiate. Entombment will take place after the service at Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum (5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212). A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Temples-Halloran Funeral Home (5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212). Caroline was born on April 22, 1968, in Columbia. She passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023, after a valiant battle with ALS. She was the daughter of Joan and the late Tommie Hatchell. She was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church and was very active in her Sunday School class. Her faith was at the forefront of everything she did. Caroline was a graduate of Irmo High School. She graduated from the University of SC with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. Caroline was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in 1994. She did not allow this to define her and her abilities. She continued to travel, taking cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska among her trips. She started a golf tournament whose proceeds went to ALS research. Tee It Up for ALS raised over $100,000 in the eight years it was held. This tournament was instrumental in the founding of the SC ALS Association. Caroline is survived by her mother, Joan Hatchell; her brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Lynne Hatchell; nephew, Matthew Hatchell; niece, Carlee Hatchell; and her loving dog, Zoey. She was predeceased by her father, Tommie Hatchell.
