Elizabeth Hodge Goodyear, 88, of Lexington went to her Lord on December 18, 2024.
A private family celebration of life for Mrs. Elizabeth Goodyear will be held Monday, December 23, 2024, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Bush River Memorial Gardens with Reverend Wayne Briggs officiating. Entombment will follow the service.
Margie Elizabeth Hodge Goodyear was born on May 9, 1936, to James Wyatt, Sr. and Minnie Leola Geter Hodge. Mrs. Goodyear (Beth) was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy R. Goodyear, Sr., brothers; J. W. Hodge, Jr., Robert Hodge, Jackson Hodge, John Hodge and sister, Sue Nickerson.
She is survived by her four children, Elizabeth Leigh “Jeanie Newell (Clifford) of Columbia; Eugene “Butch” M. Broome, Jr. (Sherri) of Savannah, GA; Donna B. Bailey (Edward) of Lexington, SC, Heather B. Crater of Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and her sister, Agnes Ellerbee.
She graduated from Mtn. Hill School in 1954 and attended the UGA School of Nursing, Columbus City Hospital, in Columbus, Georgia. There she met her first husband, Eugene M. Broome, Sr. when he was stationed at Ft. Benning. They married in 1955 and moved to Washington, DC. In 1959, they returned to Columbia and raised their four children.
They were active members of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church and later founding members of Kathwood Baptist Church. Years later she returned to Kilbourne Park Baptist Church and became the Director of the Senior High Department as well as teaching Sunday School.
In 1985, she met and married Jimmy R. Goodyear and had 38 wonderful years together. The were active members in Riverland Hills Baptist Church and loved to travel. Their favorite trips were traveling to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Beth and Jim were active volunteers at Baptist Hospital for over 24 years.
She loved her children and above all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

We would also like to give special thanks to Heart of Hospice who helped us navigate through the rough waters of Alzheimer’s. Particularly our Sabrina, Kelsey, Jaye, and Deb.
