Douglas N. Swanson, Sr.

Douglas Nils Swanson, Sr. (95) was born on June 24, 1927, in New Braunfels, Texas and departed this earthly life on October 6, 2022. He was the son of the late Albert Anscar Swanson and Erna Louise Zunker Swanson and brother of the late Buddie Glenn Swanson. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Anne Roof Swanson and will now be eternally reunited together with their Heavenly Father. Doug was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and family member, he will be missed dearly. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and Korean war as a Chief Warrant Officer. He later worked as an insurance agent for many years with Prudential Insurance. Doug was a longtime member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church. Doug is survived by his son, Douglas N. “Doug” Swanson, Jr. (Janice); his grandchildren, Stephen Douglas Swanson (Ashley) and Hope Dianne Swanson; and his great-grandchildren, Tyler Douglas Swanson, Carter Reid Swanson, and Hailey Grace Swanson. The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverland Hills Baptist Church, 201 Lake Murray Blvd, Irmo, SC, 29063, with the burial to follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Rd, Columbia, SC, 29212. The family will receive friends in the church from 10:00-10:50 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Riverland Hills Baptist Church.
