Dorothy Jean Blondin

September 24, 1930 — November 30, 2024

Dorothy Jean Blondin of Columbia, SC, age 94, proceeded to heaven on Saturday, November 30, 2024.


Born in Muskegon, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Vander Weg and Harry Vander Weg. She graduated from Muskegon Christian School. She married Donald F. Blondin on January 19, 1951. They lived in Grand Haven, Michigan for 30 years, with the exception of a short time when they lived in Carlsbad, California when Don was stationed at Camp Pendelton while serving in the Marines.


In 1981, Dorothy and Don moved to Columbia, South Carolina where they would call home for the next 43 years. They moved to Still Hopes Retirement Community in June of 2022.


Dorothy spent a lifetime creating a comfortable home that welcomed five children and hosted friends and visitors from near and far over the years. She was the model of hospitality.


She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, bowling, cooking for her family and walking. She and Don were walking for miles each day (except Sunday) until just a few months before her passing.


Dorothy and Don have been members of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church since 1982 and have been faithful attendees.


Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Don F. Blondin of Columbia, South Carolina; three sons, Richard Blondin (Cindy) of Titusville, Florida, Jack Blondin (Michele) of Columbia, South Carolina, Marc Blondin (Valerie) of Springlake, Michigan; a daughter, Jean Hinson (Byron) of Lexington, South Carolina; nine grandchildren, Chris Blondin, Rachel Sease (Alan), Michael Blondin, Heath Blondin, Allie Riley(Josh), Jordan Cain (Macey), Anna Hoffmann (Nic), Mark Hinson (Darby), Jaynie Buford; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter, Ford, Logan, Luke, Davis, Lee and Aly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Harry Vander Weg, her brother, Harry Vander Weg, Jr., her sister, Francis Vander Weg, her daughter, Jayne Cain and son-in-law, Joe Cain.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm on Friday, December 6, 2024, in the chapel at Temples-Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
