Dorothea "Doran" V. Valk

Blessed wife, mother, and grandmother, Dorothea (Doran) Volp Valk, passed away on March 19, 2020 at the age of 78 years. A native of New Jersey, Doran attended Glassboro State College, graduated with a degree in Arts in 1963 and worked in the education field up until the birth of first child.Doran leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Michael Jay Valk. During Doran’s magical life with Michael, she raised and is leaving behind three beautiful children; daughter Michele Valk Carwile; daughter Andrea Valk Hopf (husband Dennis); son Jay Richard Valk (wife Melanie).Doran is also survived by 8 grandchildren: James, Jacob, Anna, Joshua, Michael, Nicholas, Fletcher, and Blythe. Doran was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling in the family motorhome throughout her enriched life. Together, Doran and Mike raised a wonderful family, owned businesses, developed and built a neighborhood; RV’d throughout North America, loved each other, and in the end were inseparable best-friends. A private family Celebration of Doran’s life will be held at her home of 50 years in Columbia, SC on 3/21/2020. A public service will be held at a later date at Temples-Holloran Funeral Home.
